When Loganberry Books moved its quarters in
we had a lot of work to do. The new building is big, and
we had lots
of building renovations, bookshelf construction, setup, and the
do. One big room off the Annex Gallery became the
as well as box and shelving storage for about a year. Then
shelves for that room, too, filled 'em up, and dubbed it the
room in November 2004. It still had some boxes in it, but
browsable. We added some tables, chairs and rugs, and
events. But the work wasn't done. In July 2005 we
the floor. And in June 2007 we added a new HVAC unit (air
and a new shelf island (displaced from the non-fiction room when
built-in was constructed for nature). Thought you might
like to see
how far we've progressed...
April 2003: when I first encountered the space it was hard to tell what it actually looked like....
September 2003: when we moved in, it was still boxes and shelves in storage, just different boxes and shelves.
May 2004: using the big room for book processing... note the mound of new boxes at top left in the photo on the right.
September 2004: Carpenter Sal has fun building bookshelves...
and making more mess!
November 2004: the newly opened LitArts room
June 2005: with tables, chairs and rugs. Note box mountain, draped in black.
Those yellow chairs are in front of the box mountain, neatly disguised as a book display island
Various events: Karen Long came to speak for NOBS (after the meeting, on L), and Amy Steinberg gave a concert (R).
July 2005: we had the floor cleaned (sorry, no pix of Dave Repicky and his machinery!),
and realized we would have to peel, scrape and sand the paint off the cement floor before we applied anything else to the floor.
It's the ivory paint we're trying to remove from the left half of the room.
August 2005: that's about as good as it gets. A few more events, and then SkimStone time!
First, the floor is cleaned (again) and cracks filled. Then, bonding primer is applied.
Jenny Hitmar and Andrew Kaletta mix the colors and apply a first coat of SkimStone, mixing two reds together.
The finished first coat, and then lightening the tone with some sunflower yellow.
Of course we needed some purple accents, but they needed another blending SkimStone layer.
Here we are after the final clearcoat!
