Jimmy,
actor and playwright
Another
theatre friend has written a book, and this one is for
kids! Jimmy
is a professional actor and a playwright, and has
written many plays for
children including one about non-violence now touring
schools with the
Magical Theatre Company, Zero-Tolerance.
His first novel for
younger readers, Blue,
is about a boy who wants to be a Marlin so badly (yes, a
fish) and who
believes in himself so much that he actually makes it
happen. It
is designed for readers aged 9-12, but as my friend Ken
Albers says, "younger
children will grow into the book just as they grow into
oversized clothes."

Bookdealing
Buddy
A
bookdealing associate I know has a wonderful bibliography
of Tasha Tudor's
books. He deals in children's books, of course, with
an emphasis
on Tudor, and he worked with Tudor's cooperation on this
concise and highly
usable bibliography. I'm putting this reference book
under Children'
s books because it's about children's books, not
because it is one.

Denis
George
Hey,
Denis got published before I did! I can remember
talking about writing
when we were in high school together. She has some
great at-home
art projects for kids (Loo-Loo,
Boo, and Art
You Can Do) that keep your imagination
going while not sending
you to an expensive art store. Her board books (Ollie
All Over; Only One Ollie) are bright
and colorful, simple
and joyous. And they work with kids too, I know
because I tried one
out on my goddaughter. She's also been illustrating
some other people's
books, I see...
