Mousekin's Golden House

Mousekin's Fables

Mousekin's Christmas Eve

Mousekin's Close Call

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
(1920- )  "Edna Miller grew up in New York City near The American Museum of Natural History where the animal exhibits always interested her.  During her travels in this country and abroad, Mrs. Miller has observed the behavior and habits of animal life.  After completing Mousekin's Christmas Eve, Mrs. Miller felt there was only one reward she could give the live mouse she was using as her model.  He had been well fed and exercised, but a wire cage was no place for a healthy mouse.  She 'carried the cage to the woods and opened the door-- to freedom.'" --from the dustjacket of Mousekins's Christmas Eve.
After studying design and illustration in this country and abroad, she settled in North Hero, Vermont.  I've also found reference to a 1969 filmstrip of Mousekin's Golden House.

LOGANBERRY LEGACY
Mousekin's Golden House was Miller's first foray into children's books, and it was a smash success, still fondly remembered by many now-grown-ups.  Fourteen further adventures of Mousekin were published in the subsequent 26 years, all featuring the beautiful watercolors of this natural history enthusiast.

Hey, where's my favorite title?

Out-of-print books are harder to stock than new books, and some are hard to find, period.  If the title you are seeking is not listed for sale above, that probably means that I am currently out of stock.  However, I am always on the lookout for books, and will gladly quote you when I do find your coveted book. To add your name to my Wants Files, simply fill out a Book Request Form and I will e-mail you when I have a copy in stock.  Thanks.

Mousekin makes a house out of a jack-o-lantern.

I am searching for a children's book about a little mouse who makes a home in a discarded jack-o-lantern. I have read this story to children several times and just can't remember the title or author... Please help!

I need this book for my "grandma's" collection. I also would like to locate other Mousekin books.

My oldest son had an imaginary friend named Little Mouse when he was 2.  We found Mousekin's Golden House in the library and he checked it out so many times he probably deprived many other children from finding this wonderful book.  I'd love to find a copy of this for him -- and for his younger brother, who is just about to turn two.

I am not willing to pay $303.00!  This is a price quote from Bibliofind.  The book is precious but ... c'mon.  Thanks for your help.

Edna Miller, any Mousekin book.  I am a librarian in Texas, and every Halloween (when I read Mousekin's Golden House to my k-2nd students) I fight with teachers over the two copies we have of it in my library. I continue to search the inventories of vendors I order from, and it distresses me that I can not order new copies to replace my rapidly deteriorating ones. My students need to grow up hearing Edna Miller's lyrical prose (I always tell the children her words are like music) and seeing her delicate, lovely illustrations.

edna miller, mousekins golden house.  Our family loves this story.  It is a favorite with my children and grandchildren.  I am amazed it is not available. We would love all her books.

Edna Miller, Mousekin's Golden House.  I find it so disheartening that a series such as Mousekin is out of print! What a loss for future readers!  I work at a children's school and of course (like all well-loved books) our copies of this series are quite worn.  Additionally, I personally would love to have a hard back copy of Mousekin's Golden House ~ my absolute favorite!  I hope someone out in the publishing world will take interest and persue its reprinting!

Edna Miller, Mousekin's Golden House.  I work for a preschool that has been in operation for 39 years.  We use the story Mousekin's Golden House every year after Halloween.  We love this book and would love to see it re-published.  We also have a copy of the filmstrip, and we use it every year as well.  We would really like to see the filmstrip made into a video tape or dvd format.  The filmstrip is still in good shape, but we worry that we will not be able to replace it if anything would happen to it.  What can we do to encourage the publisher of this book to re-publish?

I taught kindergarten in the same school for nearly twenty years.  Every year I read these series to my students.  I am now at another school and our library doesn't have these books and I am surprized to find they are almost impossible to find.  How sad!  The little ones are the ones missing out on such wonderful stories.  You can just see the imaginations growing as you read these stories of the little mouse.

Hello, I was doing some research on Author Edna Miller.   As I have come to realize, Mousekin has a special heart to many people.  Well, I have never emailed or spoke with anyone about this topic before, but the more I read on-line....it appears that the cost for her books is getting a little pricey.   Is that based on the book being a "collectors item" or because there is a deeper value?  Perhaps we can dust off the proofs and have them republished.  Some may say that the Mousekin series is a excellent teaching tool. I certainly agree. Creatively, it allows teachers plan "lessons" around scientific occurrences, expressive actions, and even character/moral decision making..   In fact, what is a children's book worth, if I can not help in bettering the minds of tomorrow?  Regards, Chris M. Miller

Hi.. nice website.. have added to favorite places for future reference on children's books. Have special request tonight.. looking for a new or very good used copy of Mousekin's Golden House.... any help???

I loved these books!! I'm amazed they wouldn't be in reprints by now.

I don't have much information on this book.  It is one I adored long ago.  I am a teacher now and would like to share it.  I am currently looking for any of the Mousekin books.  Thanks so much!

Thank you for your search for this children's book.  Good luck!

I am also interested in any other books in the Mousekin series by Edna Miller.

I loved these books!  I'm amazed they wouldn't be in reprints by now.

This book is asolutely a delight.  Is there ANY way it can be put into print again?  How much will it cost?  I hope it won't be too expensive.  $300+ is way too expensive for a strugging teacher.  The children warm up to it in a very warm way.  Please, oh please, put it back in print.  You will make countless children ecstatic. not to mention their teacher. Please, help us! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Edna Miller, Mousekin's Golden House. PLEASE put this book back in print.  I worked in an elementary classroom in the early 80's where this book was first introduced to me.  What a joy! Someone please reprint this wonderful tale, and all the others by this wonderful author.  The pictures are beautiful as well.

Edna Miller, Mousekin's Golden House.  This is such a delightful book. I would love my grandchildren to have it and all of the other books. I am a teacher and have read this book to all of my classes. Now it is not in our library, so -- PLEASE PUT IT BACK IN PRINT!!!!!

I have a copy of Mousekin’s Golden House and love the book.  My grandmother (a wonderful librarian) read it to my sister and I so many times as a child and I truly fell in love with Edna Miller’s beautiful words.  As an adult, I tried to find the book and had no success.  One Christmas, I opened a present from my precious grandmother and found Mousekin’s Golden House.  It was the very one she had read to me so many years before.  She had gone to her old elementary school library (she had retired at that point in time) and asked if they ever planned on discarding the book.  The librarian looked up the “check out” history of the book and realized it hadn’t been checked out in three years and offered to give it to her right there on the spot.  Needless to say, I TREASURE the book.  Since losing my grandmother to breast cancer two years ago, this book has become priceless.  I literally can hear my grandmother’s voice every time I read it.  Either way, I desperately want to get the book signed and was wondering if Edna Miller ever does appearances or book readings.  I guess I just want a chance to meet the author and express to her how dearly I love her work.  I realize she is 86 years old so this is quite a long shot, but I thought I would ask.  Thank you for your help.
thanks for sharing your great memories of Mousekin....  Unfortunately, I have no idea how to reach Edna Miller...  Best bet is to try through her publisher, even though the books are all out-of-print...
