These are recent books, but gems and classics in their own right.  Some may be by award-winning authors and illustrators and this generation's most beloved children's artists.  Some books are still so new they aren't available in paperback or used copies yet, so they would only be available through the Bookworm Society book club level.  But paperbacks of contemporary books from a couple years ago may be available through the Reader's Club. Looking at Lincoln   by Maira Kalman Maira Kalman’s charming text and bold artwork makes history come alive in a fresh and exciting way.
Wonder Bear  by Tao Nyeu  Wordless, fun, and interactive— ask the child looking at these bright,  engaging pictures to narrate their own story!	Balloons Over Broadway, the true story of the puppeteer of Macy’s Parade by Melissa Sweet A bit of history and fun, with delightful drawings!   Winner of the Sibert Medal, 2012.
Symphony City  by Amy Martin   Strange and mesmerizing.  Adults will like it as much as children will!	These Hands written by Margaret H. Mason,  illustrated by Floyd Cooper Joseph’s grandpa, a black man, has history in his hands.   A serious subject written with dignity, honesty and hope.
Me . . . Jane by Patrick McDonnell Jane’s dream of living in Africa comes true.   The perfect book for every child!  A Calecott Honor book of 2012	I Want My Hat Back   by Jon Klassen Irreverent. Witty. Playful.   Winner of a New York Times Best Book Award and A Theodor Seuss Geisel 2012 Honor
