What is Book Club?
Loganberry Book Club is a book-of-the-month club that sends you, a
friend or a relative a book each month. Since Loganberry is a used bookstore,
this means timeless treasures and elusive out-of-print favorites are the
norm. Celebrate your birthday every month, or let a distant friend or relative
be reminded of you each month.
Does it look like a gift?
Yes. Books arrive wrapped in pretty paper with a silver ribbon
and Loganberry sticker. Even the one-year-olds in the club have learned
to recognize this packaging and get excited about opening their new book.
There are announcement cards for gift memberships, and your gift is shipped
directly to the recipient, while the invoices are sent directly to you.
What do the different club levels
mean?
There are three levels of membership corresponding with three price
levels: Book Lover's Guild,
Bookworm Society and Reader's
Club. Obviously a new hardback book costs more than
a used paperback, and out-of-print vintage books are sometimes the most
desired of all. These different memberships reflect the differences
in these prices. See the Book Club index
page for detailed descriptions and examples of these three clubs.
Do I have to get the pre-selected
titles listed on the website?
Of course not. The titles listed on the book club pages here
are suggestions, recommendations, and examples. You may mix and match
different kinds of clubs or tell me you want Classic Picture Books except
for Virginia Lee Burton and Robert McCloskey titles (because you have those
already). You can also tell me what sort of books and activities
you or the gift recipient enjoys, and let me cater to those interests based
on the books I have available at the time (this is the most common choice).
Are used books dirty and falling
apart?
No! All of my books are respectable copies, free of dirt, grime,
mildew, or binding problems. I simply don't deal in falling-apart
books. All books are in Very Good condition or better (for more information
on the standard language used in describing used books, please refer to
my explanation of condition grades.)
Of course, the higher level of membership, the better the books.
There may be some ex-library books included in Reader's Club selections,
or there may be a previous owner's name included in Bookworm Society selections,
but I've taken every effort to clean the books up. In Book Lover's
Guild you can expect collectible copies, clean dust jackets and out-of-print
treasures.
Can I get new books only?
Let me know your preferences; I'm flexible. New paperbacks are
available in Reader's Club, and new hardbacks are available in Bookworm
Society and Book Lover's Guild. Let me know your preferences.
What if I've already read the
book?
Return it for a new selection. If you've already read it, already
own it, simply hate that author, or whatever, just return it.
Notice of your intention to return the book is appreciated within the first
10 days, so that I can find a more appropriate selection for you.
Can I request specific titles?
Yes, but all requests pend cost and availability. I'll try my
darnest to meet your requests, but please understand that a most-requested
out-of-print book like Caroline and Her Friends which usually sells
for over $100 cannot be sent as a $10 book club selection.
How do I customize a membership?
Just let me know your interests! Each membership can be individually
designed to suit each reader, from newborn to retired. Given a theme or
genre, I can create a group of books to match your reading interests and
idiosyncracies: young adult horse books for your niece, feminist mysteries
for your old college roommate, or exotic travel books for your mother.
Name your preference, or mix and match! For instance, one member
alternates between feminist mysteries for herself and picture books for
her one-year old son.
How and when do my books arrive?
Books are sent via USPS Media Mail, wrapped in a jiffy padded envelope.
Media Mail has proven very reliable for me, and is very inexpensive,
keeping your costs down. Delivery time varies, but usually it takes
5-10 days. I ship the books during the first week of every month,
so look for delivery in the second week of each month.
Are the books really postpaid?
Yes. That doesn't mean that shipping is
free really, what it means is it is included in the membership fee.
I usually figure $3 for shipping and handling, so for instance a book in
Bookworm Society would be a $17 book here on the shelf at Loganberry, plus
$3 for shipping, for the total $20 that you pay. Sometimes I send
a slightly more expensive book one month ('cause it has your name all over
it), and compensate with a slightly less expensive book the following month.
What about international orders?
For delivery to Canada, Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, please add
$1 per month for extra shipping costs. For other countries, please
let me research the appropriate shipping expense. Most places have
a Global Priority Mail option for $10. Of course, there's always
the option my members in Thailand use: I ship the books inexpensively by
surface mail and it takes about a month to arrive. This translates
to receiving a book regularly every month, but delayed a month from the
initial order time.
What about billing?
I accept payment by check, money order, PayPal, Visa or MasterCard.
You can pay quarterly, bi-annually, or annually, as you choose (please
indicate your preference on the sign-up form). Of course, payment
in full makes my job easier and assures that there will be no interruption
in delivery. My address is: Loganberry Books, 13015 Larchmere Blvd.,
Shaker Heights OH 44120. If you have questions,
email
me or call 216-795-9800.
Is it Guaranteed?
Yes. If for any reason a book is unsatisfactory (condition, content,
or even if you've already read it), you may return it within ten days and
I will send you another choice. Prior notification of intent to return
a book is requested. How can you lose?
How do I cancel?
If you must, just let me know.
How do I sign up?
Choose a basic category below and fill out the form to let me know
what you want. Then send your payment for the appropriate amount
and I'll send the first book after I receive your payment. Unlike
other bookclubs, I don't bombard you with mail. Just think:
a birthday present that keeps on giving every month of the year!
Have fun, and keep reading.
