Why I Will Never...

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Remy Charlip's background in theatre, dance and education combine for a winning knack in creating captivating children's books.  He has won numerous awards for his work in all these fields, including the Horn Book Award, Bologna Book Fair Award, and The New York Times "10 Best Illustrated Books of the Year" for three consecutive years.

LOGANBERRY LEGACY
While Charlip may be more famous in the book world for classics such as Thirteen, Fortunately, and Arm in Arm, the request I receive most often is for Mother Mother I Feel Sick Send for the Doctor Quick Quick Quick.  Its silhouette illustrations trigger young imaginations and its simple humor is right on target with young readers, especially memorable years after those readers have grown up and had children of their own.  The new reprint features new textured backgrounds and scenography behind the silhouettes, and a couple new color contrasts too.  It's quite effective.

Hey, where's my favorite title?

Out-of-print books are harder to stock than new books, and some are hard to find, period.  If the title you are seeking is not listed for sale above, that probably means that I am currently out of stock.  However, I am always on the lookout for books, and will gladly quote you when I do find your coveted book. To add your name to my Wants Files, simply fill out a Book Request Form and I will e-mail you when I have a copy in stock.  Thanks.

SELECTED STUMPERS & REQUESTS
The title of the book I am looking for goes thus .. It had little verses, funny ones in it like "Shot shot a shot at Not. Not shot a shot at Shot. Shot's shot hit Not's shot..." and "Pete and Repete were sitting on a fence. Pete fell of and who was left?" and "It was a dark and stormy night. The ship was sinking and the captain said to his son, 'tell me a story my son' so he began 'It was a dark and stormy night..." and "2 octopus got married and walked down the aisle arm in arm in arm in arm in arm in arm in arm in arm"  Does this description bring anything to mind?  It has very imaginative simple drawing, very uncluttered pages.  I can't for the life of me think of the title.  Probably was published in the 60'2 or 70's. What a wonderful service you provide. Many thanks in advance.
This sounds like Remy Charlip, Arm in Arm: A Collection of Connections, Endless Tales, Reiterations, and Other Echolalia -- originally published in the 60s, reprinted in '97, & still in print.

I have been looking for Mother Mother I Feel Sick Send for the Doctor Quick Quick Quick  for years!  I can only remember some details as I read it as a very young child.  I think its like a shadow type book, about a boy that eats all kinds of things like bikes, bird cages etc.......Thank you for your help.

I noticed that you had a copy of Thirteen by Remy Charlip and Jerry Joyner.  I would like to buy it if it is still available.  If you have two, I would like to buy both of them.

A collection of jokes and silly minutiae, all I can remember is the first renditon of "Pete and Repeat" I had ever seen, with a color film of the event filling the margins.
Charlip, Remy, Arm in Arm: A Collection of Connections, Endless Tales, Reiterations and Other Echolalia.  NY Parents Magazine 1969.  This may be the one, it does have the Pete and Repete piece and many other similar things.

I'm looking for a book about a boy who ate a wide variety of very strange objects that was often not food.  He would eat bird cages and fishing poles and bicycles.  His mother would have to call the doctor, who removed them from his stomach.  In fact, a line I remember says, "Mother, Mother, I feel sick.  Send for the doctor quick, quick, quick."  The entire book was done in profile and the cover was black and purple or blue, also done in profile with the all the things the boy ate in the book.  Strange, I know, but funny.  The illustrations were set in the 1920's or so as the hat the boy ate had a large plume on it and the doctor wore a coat with tails.  It had a rhythmic prose, but it didn't rhyme. Isn't it strange the things you remember 30 years down the road?  Anything you could tell me about either book would be so greatly appreciated.  My nephews need to have these books now.

The book was about a boy who had a stomach ache, and his mother calls the doctor, and the doctor proceeds to pull out crazy objects out of the boy, like bicycles and birdcages and a band-saw I think.  The very end of the book ends with the boy feeling much better and the Doctor asking the mother "Have you seen my watch?"  The illustrations were all silouhette- blues and purples with some white on a black background, and my sister and I THINK the title is something like The belly-acheor My tummy hurts.
Main entry: Charlip, Remy.  Title: Mother, mother, I feel sick, send for the doctor quick, quick, quick Publisher: Parents' Magazine Press  Date of Publication: [1966]  I think there might also be an edition published by Scholastic.
I believe your Unsolved Mystery B2 is a little book called Mother, Mother, I Feel Sick! Send for the Doctor, Quick, Quick, Quick! At the end, it's the doctor's tall hat that is missing, not his watch, but it's all done in silhouettes, so I think it's the same.

A children's book I remember from the 60's and I have older brothers, so it could be from the 50's or even 40's.  It was about a boy named Peter who got sick and his mother sent for the doctor who arrived at the house carrying his little black bag.  The doctor proceeds to treat him and he gets well, of course.  At least some of the illustrations were black & white, but some may have been color, I do not recall the cover of this book.

I had a book as a child which told the adventures of a boy (I think it was a boy) who has a series of mishaps.  Each mishap  began with the word "Unfortunatly" and there was a corresponding save from the mishap which began with the "Fortunatly" i.e. Unfortunaly the plane was going to crash, fortunatly there was a parachute on the plane, unfortunatly the parachute came down over shark infested waters etc.... I would love to find this book.  Thank you for your help.

remy charlip's i love you  is the most touching little story i have ever read. i read it every night.

I don't remember the story at all. I only remember there is a series of unfortunate incidents alternated with fortunate incidents. Ex. Unfortunately, my car broke down  fortunately, I had a cell phone so that I could call for help.

Story about a boy who goes through many travails to get to his birthday party. Pages vary through  "fortunately" occurrences and "unfortunately" ones. Like "Fortunately there was a haystack to break my fall, unfortunately there was a pitchfork in it; fortunately I missed the pitchfork, unfortunately I missed the haystack" and so on.
